İstihbarat Amiri Sencer yakın arkadaşının hanımı Asu’yu çok sever. Sencer bir kız annesi Asu’ya ulaşabilmek için arkadaşı Önder’i öldürür. Önder ve Asu’nun kızını da bu aşkta engel gören Sencer kızını da öldürmesi için yardımcısı Celil’e verir. Celil ise bu güzel kız çocuğu Nehir’e kıymaz ve onu evlatlık verir. Sencer’in planına göre, kocası ve kızını ardı ardına kaybeden Asu, duygusal boşluğunu Sencer ve Sencer’in çocuklarıyla dolduracaktır.
Yıllar geçer ve Nehir, onu büyüten ailesi ile birlikte İstanbul’a taşınır. Nehir, Sencer’in tersanesinde kaynak işçisi bir kız olarak çalışmaya başlar. Sencer ile evlenen ve Sencer’in iki çocuğuna da annelik yapan Asu, kızını öldü bilse de, aslında kızı Nehir fakir bir ailenin kızı olarak yanı başında yaşamaya başlar. Celil, Nehir’in asıl kimliğini bildiği için, Nehir’i oğlundan ve Asu’dan uzak tutmaya çalışsa da başarılı olamayacaktır.
